Division of the Arts & Humanities
Chicago minds collaborate to question, create, and reimagine culture.
A laboratory for human meaning
Across disciplines, languages, and traditions, UChicago humanities scholars and artists ask the most enduring questions—about meaning, culture, and expression—and confront the forces reshaping them. From philosophy to media arts, rigorous analysis and creative practice work together to understand how culture is made and why it matters.
As artificial intelligence, global exchange, and new media transform human experience, the division is helping define what comes next. Philanthropic support will advance emerging fields, strengthen cultural preservation, and ensure that the ideas and artists that shape our world continue to thrive.
